From Unmet Need to Unparalleled Performance

Our proprietary technology has been shown to eradicate biofilms, which account for a significant percentage of hard-to-treat bacterial infections.

Our approach demands innovations that are as sustainable and safe as they are effective. We pride ourselves on a strict adherence to practices that support environmental and antimicrobial responsibility.

The Biofilm Problem

The mechanism of action of traditional antibacterial agents is predicated upon targeting—and destroying—a single organism.

In recent years, scientists have revised their limited view of bacteria as free-floating single organisms, acknowledging the challenge posed by sophisticated microbial communities formed on surfaces and within the human body.

Bacteria residing in these accumulations—called biofilms—can be 1000 times more resistant to antibiotics than planktonic (free-floating) bacteria. Biofilms make bacteria stronger, more proliferate, and more resistant.

According to the National Institutes of Health, biofilms account for over 80 percent of microbial infections in the human body.

These statistics reveal an unmet need and a looming crisis.

The Next Science™ Solution

Biofilm prevalence and resistance present a clear threat to human health. Compounding that challenge is the fact that currently available eradication treatments are hazardous to humans and the environment.

Next Science™ offers a new solution through material science innovation.

Our technology physically breaks down the biofilm’s protective structures, exposing and eradicating bacteria through cell lysis. Unlike traditional chemistries, there is no possible resistance to our technology; versions of our technology are effective against any bacteria, persister cells and spores, and reduces the rate of biofilm recurrence by over 100 times.

Next Science™ technology offers efficacy without compromising safety. Better and faster bacterial reduction is achieved with lower toxicity, improved tolerance and environmental compatibility.

Next Science Wound Gel Debuts at the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care

April 13, 2016

Earlier this month, Next Science attended the SAWC spring conference with the nation’s foremost experts on advanced wound care. Next Science Wound Gel was the only biofilm-focused product in attendance, and served to inform the wound care community of the significant threat that biofilms pose to wound healing, and the inadequacies of competing products against such structurally-resistant bacteria.
