Testosterone pumps up the profits

testosterone-profits.jpgRecent research has shown that financial traders tend to make more money when their testosterone levels are high. This might be linked to the fact that the so-called male hormone makes them more confident and focused.

Still, researchers from the University of Cambridge say that high testosterone levels might also explain why stock traders sometimes make irrational choices that lead to crashes.

What is more, research has shown that if testosterone reaches psychological limits, as it might during a market bubble, it can turn risk - taking into a form of addiction, while extreme cortisol levels during a crash can make traders shun risk altogether. Furthermore, studies have shown that daily testosterone is significantly higher on days when traders made more money than their one-month daily average, while cortisol levels tended to rise during times of financial uncertainty.
