Rock Port, Missouri - 100% wind powered

22 May 2008 14:26

We have seen several cities which are partially powered by eco-friendly sources, but the city of Rock Port, Missouri is claiming to be 100% wind-powered.

This is possible due to four wind turbines which have been built on agricultural lands withing the Rock Port limits. The turbines are expected to produce about 16 million kilowatt hours of energy, while the city’s consumption reaches about 13 million kilowatt hours. The excess energy will be sold to the Missouri Joint Municipal Utilities.

Still, energy consumption is very rationalized, but the town has managed to throw a party for itself in order to commemorate this accomplishment.
