Albert Hoffman, LSD’s ‘dad’ dies at the age of 102
The inventor of the most powerful synthetic drug in the world died at the age of 102 because of a heart
attack, in Switzerland.
He was a chemist and a member of the Association for Psychedelic Studies. Albert Hofmann discovered LSD 70 years ago, while he was studying the utility of some psychedelic mushrooms that grow on the corn.
Hofmann was the first who tested the drug on his own skin. It’s true, it was a mistake, this had happened when some dust sticked to his finger. After that he went home because he was feeling dizzy. He went home by bike with an incredible speed, even if he had the impression that he is not moving.
Three days later he did this experiment again, this time on propose, and the result was an imaginary journey in an incredible world. After some more experiments, Hofmann affirmed that in a big dose, LSD is dangerous.
Three decades later, LSD became the symbol of hippie generation, and in 1966 became forbidden. With all these, Beatles still made a song for him called “Lucy in the Sky of Diamonds” ( Lucky for L, Sky for S, Diamonds for D and combined … LSD ).
