Nanosoccer at RoboCup Open

21 May 2008 13:04

Nanosoccer has already been played at the US RoboCup Open 2008, but this will be the first time when thenanosoccer-robocup.jpg public will be allowed to spectate at a soccer game between microscopic players. The players are actually computer-driven robots the size of unicellular organisms, and the ball will have a diameter of a human hair.

The purpose of the game is to demonstrate the maneuverability, ability to move objects and response to computer control of the nanobots. This could prove very useful in areas such as microsurgery or manufacturing nano components for microscopic electronic devices.
