Software that finds weak spots in statues

Researchers at the University of Wisonsin-Madison and Florida International University have developed a new software called Scan and Solve which allows engineers and sculptors to check buildings or statues in order to detect areas that might crack.

Using 3D data, the software manages to foretell where objects are most likely to cease, and how their weak points will be affected by elements such as gravitation. The David statue of Michelangelo was used as an example, and we can clearly see the damaged and weakened areas.

Still, this software was designed for objects that didn’t crack yet. In the future, this might even help doctors predict where bones are most likely to break.
